What can I get Nan for her birthday?
- Garden Lover
- Pot Luck Corner
- Garden Makeover using pots
- Gifts for Grandchildren and Grandparents
Whether you’re called Nan, Gran, Granny, Grandma, or have a pet name your grandchildren, no doubt, have probably asked you what you would like for your birthday or do you want a surprise…
If you’ love gardening you now probably have more time to share it with a little one than you did when you were raising your own children like me?
My Grandad Albert was a keen gardener and I remember as a child being in his garden with him and allowing me to water the pots, but not his precious carnations. He built a round pond for some fish and my little brother, Barry, aged 3 promptly fell in it. They lived in London and the air raid shelter at the bottom of the garden had new steps and a greenhouse roof - the greenhouse was off limits for a few years!
I really enjoy being with my grandchildren and flowers are my passion and I’m hoping that my grandkids will inherit green fingers. My garden makeover using pots is a real opportunity to teach the young members of our family what my grandfather taught me. Of course, in my last blog I mentioned how I was going to create a moveable feast of plant pots and flower containers. And so, my grandchildren will be choosing pots for growing flowers, plants and veg seeds. They will have their very own little outdoor space – we’re calling it the Pot Luck Corner and so gifts for grandchildren will be easy this year as well as gifts for grandparents.!!
September Birth Flowers and Birthstone
There are two flowers associated with September - Morning Glory and Aster
The deep blue Morning Glory is a symbol of love and affection.
Asters have long been considered an enchanted flower. In ancient times, it was thought that the perfume from their burning leaves could drive away evil spirits and are known as a talisman of love and a symbol of patience.
The Birthstone for September is the Blue Sapphire and the Zodiac signs that span September are Virgo and Libra
